CABBAGE ROLLS REVIEW

"MY FAMILY " CABBAGE ROLLS

*****These are getting 5 stars. They are so so delicious.  They are easy to make.
Even better the next day and the next and the next.  I can eat these for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack. I really love them. My mother has been making these for over

50 years and they are still as good today as they were back then.

INGREDIENTS:

COOK RICE

FILL LARGE PAN WITH WATER. HEAT TO BOIL

WHILE WATER IS HEATING, REMOVE OUTSIDE OF CABBAGE

I FIND IT IS EASIER TO GET CABBAGE
OFF IF I CUT THE MIDDLE OUT

  LIKE THIS

IF I HAVE TO MIX BY HAND, I USE GLOVES.
I ALWAYS RINSE THEM OFF BEFORE I USE THEM

PUT SAUSAGE IN PAN
**DO NOT COOK SAUSAGE FIRST**

POUR CRUSHED TOMATOES IN

ADD GARLIC POWDER
(TO YOUR TASTE)

ADD CHILI POWDER
(TO YOUR TASTE)

ADD SALT AND PEPPER
(TO YOUR TASTE)

ADD RICE

MIX WELL

SET ASIDE

I LOVE THESE SILICONE POT HOLDERS

CAN PUT INTO BOILING WATER
AND GET CABBAGE LEAVES

OR YOU CAN USE A FORK TO REMOVE
CABBAGE LEAVES AS THEY GET DONE

TAKE CABBAGE LEAVES OUT
 AFTER THEY HAVE SOFTENED

PUT IN BOWL TO LET COOL FOR A COUPLE
MINUTES BEFORE YOU HANDLE THEM

GET THE FIRST LEAVES OUT AND WHEN
YOU GET DOWN TO THE HARDER UNCOOKED AREA,
LET IT COOK A LITTLE LONGER

I ALWAYS BOIL A SECOND HEAD OF
CABBAGE. ONE IS REALLY NOT ENOUGH

PUT A LITTLE TOMATO SAUCE ON BOTTOM OF PAN

SPREAD AROUND

LAY CABBAGE ROLL OUT

PUT SOME SAUSAGE MIX ON IT

ROLL TOP OVER AND SIDE IN AND ROLL GENTLY

CONTINUE UNTIL ALL ARE ROLLED

PUT IN PAN

POUR TOMATO SAUCE OVER TOP

HERE YOU CAN ADD  SOME WATER OR
I LIKE TO JUST ADD A CAN OF DICED TOMATOES.
THEN NO WATER IS NEEDED

TURN HEAT UP AND BRING TO

BOILING.
SHOULD BE MOSTLY COVERED WITH TOMATO SAUCES

TURN DOWN TO 275 DEGREES

PUT LID BACK ON AND COOK FOR 4 PLUS HOURS.
YOUR WHOLE HOUSE WILL SMELL SO GOOD WHILE THESE COOK

IT MAKES A LARGE BOWL FULL

DELICIOUS!!

RECIPE:

2 pounds sausage
(I use Jimmy Dean regular but you can use hot and any brand you want)
1 large can crushed tomatoes
2 cups of cooked rice
garlic powder
chili powder
salt and pepper
1 or 2 heads of cabbage
(I always get two)
2 large cans of tomato sauce
(I also use a large can of rotel diced tomatoes so as not
to use water but you can just add a little water if you want to)

Boil water and cook cabbage just until it starts to soften.
Cook rice
Mix all ingredients except cabbage and tomato sauce together.
Get cabbage out and roll sausage mixture in cabbage.
Put a little sauce in bottom of pan.
Put cabbage rolls in and cover with tomato sauce and water or another can of diced tomatoes.  Cook to a boil then turn heat down low. Cook for 4 plus hours.

You can cook these in large pan on top of stove on very low heat for about 4 hours or so,
or in the oven on 250-275 degrees for 4 plus hours
or in a roaster when I use to keep the heat out of the house, for 4 hours plus.
Be sure and cover pan while cooking

Serve and Enjoy!!!
These are great with mashed potatoes and some kind of bread.

DELICIOUS!!!!

xoxo
